I know the people of western New York are mortified by the thought of Chan Gailey being brought in to right the ship. Lets be honest the Bills have no chance of rising to the top of the AFC East anytime soon as presently constructed. However, what if the Bills just scrapped the idea of playing it safe?
Follow me here. Bills faithful seem to vomit at the mention of Michael Vick being brought in. What he did was heinous and evil. With that said he paid his debt to society and Bills fans are in no place to be picky. To those of you that think he isn't an adequate Qb any longer no matter your thoughts on what he did off the field, you may be right. But lets say Buffalo, brought in Vick, then drafted Tim Tebow, scrapped the whole notion of a conventional offense and just went with an abridged version of the spread? The biggest reason people in the know seem to think the spread would fail in the NFL is because the QB wouldn't be able to handle the pounding, but what if you focused only on bringing in quarterbacks that ran this offense in college...You could have at the minimum 3 QBs on the roster at all times that are adept at running the system, and in the case of Vick and Tebow it would be similar to that of the early millennium Giants, with thunder and lightning, only it would be coming in the form of the signal caller. They could alternate series heck even alternate plays depending upon the down and distance.
I know the idea seems absurd and its not something the Bills would ever do. My question is why not though. If they go forward as presently constructed they are looking at numerous blackouts next year, a fading fan base and presumably a new location in the near future. Why not try thinking outside the box. Whats the worst that happens? They miss the playoffs? As a Bucs fan I know the pain of losing, if nothing else, at least make the losing interesting.
